Interior

The interior of the 1960 Porsche 356 B T5 Super 90 Cabriolet reflects Porsche’s functional engineering philosophy. The painted metal dashboard features green-lettered VDO instrumentation with the tachometer centrally positioned, emphasizing the model’s performance character.

This example retains its original black leather seats and original convertible top, preserving the factory specification and material authenticity. The cabin shows a light, consistent patina, reinforcing the car’s originality while maintaining structural integrity and usability. Mechanical controls remain direct and precise, delivering the pure, analog driving experience expected from an early air-cooled Porsche.

Engine and Transmission

The 1960 Porsche 356 B T5 Super 90 Cabriolet is powered by its matching-numbers Type 616/16 air-cooled flat-four engine, displacing 1,582 cc and producing 90 horsepower at 5,800 rpm with a 9.1:1 compression ratio. Equipped with dual Solex 40 PII-4 carburetors, the Super 90 delivers improved throttle response and sustained high-rev capability compared to standard 356 variants.

Power is transmitted through its period-correct Type 741 four-speed fully synchronized manual gearbox, providing precise engagement and proven durability. This matching drivetrain configuration represents the most developed pushrod setup available in the 356 range prior to the Carrera models, combining mechanical robustness with lightweight performance.

Did you know ?

The twin-grille engine lid introduced on the 356 B wasn’t just a styling update. It was designed to increase airflow to the engine bay, helping cool higher-output engines like the Super 90.
